Aḥmad ibn Abī Ya‘qūb ibn Ja‘far ibn Wahb ibn Waḍīḥ al-Ya‘qūbī, known simply as al-Ya'qubi (d. c. 897–905 CE), was a Muslim geographer, historian and perhaps the first historian of world culture in the Abbasid Caliphate. He was an imperial official who lived and worked in Armenia, Khorasan and northeast Persia, where he served the local Tahirid dynasty. Following the fall of that dynasty, he left for India and then settled in Egypt, also visiting the Maghreb region of North Africa. His travels provided him with first-hand experience that directly shaped his scholarly work.
